Stewarts are proud to have recently hosted its second cohort of work experience students via the Social Mobility Foundation, a fantastic charity which aims to make practical improvements in social mobility for young people in the UK.

A number of bright students joined the firm for a one-week placement held across both Stewarts offices in London and Leeds. The programme was designed to be informative and fun, while offering insight into a career in the legal industry.

Visit the Social Mobility Foundation’s website for more information on its Aspiring Professionals Programme and further work.

The work placement week

Each student had the opportunity to spend time with two mentors and their departments, carrying out legal tasks such as researching and preparing articles, document preparation and review and work shadowing duties.

The wider timetable included presentations relating to Stewarts, the legal system, and how to become a lawyer; and practical sessions focusing on diversity and inclusion, building your personal brand, presentation and debating skills, and writing a personal statement.

The aspiring young professionals were also taken on a tour of the local courts, and the week finished with the students giving thought provoking group presentations on a choice of topics. All mentors were particularly impressed at how the students presented and effectively made use of the tips learned during the presentation masterclass earlier in the week.

We really enjoyed hosting this year’s cohort, and look forward to welcoming more students in partnership with the Social Mobility Foundation in 2024.
