Stewarts has achieved record-breaking results in the most recent edition of The Legal 500. The Trust and Probate Litigation, Competition Litigation and Leeds Clinical Negligence departments have all moved up the rankings. Every Leeds-based department is now top ranked.

The firm has been listed in 16 practice areas, nine as leading practice areas, and we have 58 lawyers recommended across their chosen areas of specialism.

The Clinical Negligence department in Leeds moves up to tier 1, which means every Leeds department is now top ranked for their specialist area. Stewarts’ Leeds office is described as the “pre-eminent claimant clinical negligence firm”. In London, the Clinical Negligence department maintains its top tier ranking and new arrival Alison Goldney is mentioned as a recommended lawyer.

The firm’s Personal Injury department is top ranked and described as “the premier claimant firm in the field”, and “true specialists in personal injury matters”.

The Aviation team also maintains its top ranking with its three partners being recommended lawyers. It is lauded for its work in “aviation accidents and disasters worldwide, often involving multi-jurisdictional litigation”.

The top ranked International Injury department is described as being “best in the business” and as having the “technical skills, the know-how and the commitment to make a real difference to any serious case”.

The firm’s Divorce and Family department maintains its top ranking in both London and Leeds, with head of department Stephen Foster being described as an “excellent team leader who has pulled together a fabulous team that continues to go from strength to strength”.

The firm’s Trust and Probate Litigation department improves on its 2017 debut, moving up a tier to tier 3. It is noted for its handling of “large-scale disputes in England and other leading jurisdictions”.

The “outstanding” Employment department is described as “one of the best in the market for senior executives”, and maintains its top ranking in this area.

Tax Litigation maintains its ranking and has three lawyers recommended. The department is praised for its “speedy and practical commercial advice” and is listed as being particularly good at “demystifying complicated legal issues”.

The Competition Litigation department moves up to tier 2, in what has been a strong year for the department. Following its successful results for clients in two recent cases, Mastercard and Vattenfall, it is described in the directory as “one of the leading competition damages firms in the field”.

The Commercial Litigation department is ranked for its specialisms in commercial and banking litigation, maintaining its rankings in both areas. The firm is described as “smart and user friendly” and noted for providing “an excellent service with able lawyers, who are ready to drop everything and get up to speed at short notice when necessary”.

The International Arbitration department is described as “a boutique firm that regularly outguns its larger competitors”, and maintains its ranking from the previous guide.
